I’m Moving! (Well, Moved!) – York Avenue

color coded bookshelves in a studio apartment

By the time you examine this, I will have the keys to my fourth at any time apartment in New York City. Which is very thrilling for me!

What started out as “I’m just looking” at the a single bedrooms in my setting up quite quickly morphed into decorating explained 1 bedroom inside my head – “ooh, my couch could go below, and oh, this is a great place for the wall-to-wall bookshelves I have been obsessing above!” – and ahead of you know it, I was signing on the proverbial dotted line.

This is a bit of a tough 1 as significantly as moves go for the reason that there is nothing wrong with my present-day (as I produce this) condominium. I enjoy this studio. It has more windows than I’ll probably ever have once more, given that it’s a corner studio – I have tons of light coming in from Western and Southern exposures so it’s just a regular flood of sun. Which is superb – there is practically nothing much more vital than all-natural gentle in an condominium as significantly as I’m worried. It is also horrible in selected methods as I have mainly been dwelling in a greenhouse. If it’s sizzling outside, it’s Very hot in my apartment. If it is chilly outside the house, it’s chilly in my apartment. And I signify Actually cold. I’ll likely hardly ever neglect this past Memorial Working day weekend – I stayed in the town because I had photoshoots, and it was unseasonably chilly and wet – cloudy, gloomy. Just the worst type of climate. And my apartment. Was. Freezing. I was huddled beneath my cover with two sweatshirts on and nevertheless could not get warm – to the position that I wound up going into my toilet, shutting the door, and functioning the very hot h2o in the shower and sink in hopes of setting up up some steam and heat I could sit in for a handful of minutes. I introduced my Kindle in! It was bleak.

So I will not overlook that! Nor will I overlook my “view,” which is very awful. I just seriously want the view from the new apartment which is East experiencing and on the lookout out in the direction of the town, relatively than the back of structures as my latest 1 does. In fact, my recent condominium looks onto the back of structures wherever all types of equipment and turbines are positioned that seemingly run the electric power of the whole block, so there’s also a continual “humming” sounds of equipment heading on exterior my window, as properly as continual smoke or steam or who appreciates what puffing out of smoke stacks. Most likely not the greatest detail in the earth! So I can not say I’ll pass up all of that far too considerably.

The other thing is I just felt like I experienced began to outgrow this position – or at minimum my stuff had. And indeed, I really should get rid of things. Certainly, downsize and minimize and Marie Kondo and all of that. But also – I’m a 35 yr outdated individual. I’m permitted to have some stuff! And no, I never want to continue to keep accumulating and maintain on to things I don’t like, but I also never want to get rid of all of my things! So it just started to experience like it was bursting at the seams a bit, and I was itching for a modify. The difficult point with an condominium like this nevertheless, is you can’t alter all that substantially! I had it set up fairly considerably beautifully. All of the home furniture match in flawlessly, almost everything was where it need to be…to the position the place if I began building any big variations (which I craved), I’d just be creating matters even worse, for the sake of some thing new.

So off I go, on to a little something new. I know I’ll pass up features of the old area (the gentle!), but I’m gaining a ton of place and a new inventive decorating venture, so – things are usually a tradeoff, correct? An additional very good matter about this transfer is that it Eventually received me to photograph my condominium! I’d been this means to for a though but I held getting fast paced with other issues and sensation like oh I want to wait around until finally I incorporate this or do this – but almost nothing like the time crunch of relocating in a month to get you likely! I was tremendous, super lucky that the awesome stylist extraordinaire Frances Bailey was able to make time for me (we’d worked on a task together earlier that was so substantially enjoyable so I’d noticed up and close and individually how talented she is!) – and alongside one another we shot and styled the area about a week ago! I cannot hold out to get those pictures edited and out into the planet when my plan with images lets up a tiny. Items have been completely nuts quickly – the minute tumble strike my calendar just began filling with shoots and mainly has not stopped. But I hope to get people photos out there shortly.

Extra to arrive on all of this…I’m hoping to do something of a cozy previous English library vibe with this place…something a small moody and perhaps a minimal different from what I’ve carried out prior to? Who is aware, we’ll see how it goes! I have been emotion really influenced by Louise Roe lately and obsessed with every thing she does – so I’m hoping to share a write-up quickly with all of my inspiration. I have a lot of ideas and I’m excited for a new decorating adventure – and to convey you all alongside for the experience!
