With mountain views and and historic Main Street charm, this Catskill home is awaiting its next caretaker.
Built in the 1860s, the brick home at 308 Main Street is of Italianate Manse design. It’s been lovingly restored by its owners Nancy and Dan who were drawn to the home’s elegance and stature.
“We saw an old photo of the building at the Historical Society which showed the original building and wraparound porch. After seeing that, we knew we wanted to buy the house and renovate it with modern touches, and build a porch reminiscent of its original design,” they said.
The owners’ favorite rooms include the renovated chefs kitchen, which is even larger after removing walls to make it more functional, updated plumbing, and the removal of a toilet in that room.
They also love the large upstairs bedroom which has lots of windows bringing in beautiful natural light.
Other highlights of the home include the reconstructed L-shaped porch made of Brazilian walnut and kept cool by large fans for entertaining, a yoga room, and newly renovated bathrooms.
Refinished hardwood floors lay revealed after the owners took up the wall-to-wall carpeting. The owners took care to add modern touches which fit in seamlessly with original details like decorative mantels and trims.
The home is located right in the heart of the village of Catskill, just a short drive away from breweries, restaurants, and art galleries. The Thomas Cole National Historic Site is a mere 3 minute drive on the way to Rip Van Winkle Bridge which will take you to Rogers Island Wildlife Management Area. Explore Hudson and Woodstock nearby, or head to New York City which is less than two hours away.
The owners say the Sunday farmer’s market in town is a great community meeting spot.
Nancy and Dan will miss hosting family gatherings and parties in this Main Street abode.
“We are hoping someone who appreciates the home and the community will purchase it,” they said.
