Whitewashing and Set up Measures

1. Whitewash Boards 1st.

This will save you a great deal of time and headache if you do this first.  I experienced improved management of the colour when I took the time to whitewash the boards just before I installed them.

Dilute the paint of selection with h2o. I utilised about 75% paint to twenty five% h2o for this seem. I didn’t want it to be way too white so I wiped it off, with a rag, right soon after implementing the paint with a brush. Let that dry for a couple of hours then you can start out setting up.

2. Clean up the Area.

Clean the ceiling with a moist rag and some dish soap to get rid of any filth or dust.  This will help the boards adhere to the ceiling when you glue them in put.

You’ll also want to get rid of the light fixtures to reinstall soon after your plank ceiling is installed. We took this possibility to swap the flush-mount “boob lights” with can lights and we enjoy the variance! Additional info about that coming in the video.

Read more about setting up recessed can lights or see our picks for more attractive flush-mount fixtures listed here.

3. Mark All the Ground Joists or Ceiling Rafters.

In my scenario, I was in the basement down below the principal amount of the dwelling, so I located all the flooring joists with a stud finder and chalked a line throughout the place to detect the centre of every single flooring joist with a chalk line, so I could nail the boards to the flooring joists behind the drywall in the ceiling.

I have found and investigated other strategies to setting up boards on the ceiling, but I resolved that just nailing and gluing to the ceiling was the best choice for me.  Our finished ceiling peak without the new boards was 7′-6″ and I didn’t want to make it way too a lot shorter with other strategies that I saw.

Start off on the longest wall in the back again of the place, opposite of the doorway.  I ran the boards the duration of the place, perpendicular to the door.  Slice the boards as you go with a miter saw.

Then utilised the pin nailer to keep it in put on the ceiling while the adhesive dries.  I nailed in to the edge of the tongue at and angle, to hide most of the nail heads.  Mainly because I utilised a pin nailer most of the holes the place so small it didn’t even mater way too a lot that they the place displaying.
