Early in 2019, artist Ingrid Daniell awoke to a vivid desire. ‘I was standing on the edge of a reef and a whale passed by rolling around to glimpse at me… it was a person of individuals beautiful goals that remain with you, and you want you could continue to be in,’ she claims. It wasn’t till arriving at this Tasmanian beach front shack a several months afterwards that everything clicked into position. ‘It struck me that this was the setting of my dream.’
Ingrid and her partner, Clifton Daniell of Builtscape Design Development, went on to invest in the 1980s shack and name it Whale Tune – a reference not only to Ingrid’s aspiration, but the a lot of whales that migrate together the property’s ocean doorstep each 12 months.
The shack was structurally audio at the time of acquiring, although much of the decking, roof, windows and joinery required replacing. Clifton made the renovations himself, to be created by builder James Bennet.
‘James appreciated the simplicity of the renovation and worked at salvaging treasured boards and making certain the shack retained its original appeal,’ claims Ingrid. ‘We did not want to effects the shack too a great deal and only preferred to operate in the present footprint and the shack by itself.
